Description
This sumi-e artwork is inspired by a haiku of Yosa Buson, master of haiku and painter of the Edo period:
〈Original Haiku(Japanese)〉夕立や 草葉をつかむ むら雀
— 与謝蕪村 (Yosa Buson)
〈Translation (English)〉
A summer shower comes down.
Sparrows, clutching the blades of grass,
huddle beneath them for shelter.
— Yosa Buson
In this work, the sudden energy of a summer shower is contrasted with the tender sight of sparrows huddling together beneath the grass. The rain, though fierce, becomes the very reason the sparrows draw close, creating a fleeting yet endearing moment of intimacy in nature. Through calligraphic brushstrokes and sumi ink, this delicate balance of vitality and gentleness is expressed.
