Description
This artwork combines Japanese calligraphy and sumi-e painting, inspired by a haiku of Housai Ozaki:
〈Original Haiku (Japanese)〉
あさがおの つるのさきの いのちふるはす
— 尾崎放哉
〈Translation (English)〉
“Life trembles at the tip of the morning glory vine.”
— Housai Ozaki
In this work, the haiku’s fragile yet vivid expression of life is embodied through brush and ink.
The calligraphy employs variant kana (hentaigana), flowing into lines that evoke the winding form of the morning glory vine itself.
The sumi-e captures the fleeting softness of the vine, resonating with the trembling rhythm of existence.
It is a meditation on life itself—fragile, tender, yet unmistakably alive.
